image Madison was charged with DUI for driving erratically while shuttling 23 high schoolers to prom in Oswego, Ill. (DuPage County Sheriff's Office mugshot.) Meet Richard L. Madison. The 54-year-old limo driver was arrested Saturday night and charged with driving under the influence , suspected of shuttling 23 teens on a party bus to the Oswego East High School prom while drunk behind the wheel. One of the teens, Kelsey Dano, told the Sun-Times Madison backed the bus into a ditch after picking them up, slammed on the brakes repeatedly, cut off three cars that were forced to swerve to avoid hitting the bus and eventually drove the teens to the wrong venue. The prom goers eventually called their parents to get them to their prom, an experience senior Kelsey Dano called a bummer. "We came to two lanes of traffic where we had to cross both of them and he pulled out in front of three cars coming. They all had to slam on their brakes and swerve. And then he hopped a median. After that everyone was freaking out, like something is not right," said Dano. Madison, who posted bond and was released Sunday, said he wasnt drunk and that mechanical issues with the bus were the reason for his erratic driving. The bus needs wheel alignment and thats why it was moving the way it did. Yes, it was out-of-true wheels that led to Madison allegedly hopping the median, running into a ditch and slamming on the brakes repeatedly. Sources told NBC 5 Madisons blood alcohol level was 0.239, nearly three times the legal limit. His employer, Limos Alive, said theyre taking the situation very seriously. The Longest Limos LONGMONT, Colo. - Longmont police are trying to determine how a 16-year-old girl got alcohol after she was hospitalized with a blood-alcohol level five times the legal threshold for being under the influence. Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur said a limousine driver found her abandoned by her friends in the back of the limo. Satur said the teen was taken by ambulance to Longmont United Hospital. He said her blood-alcohol level was 0.40. Under state law , 0.08 is the threshold for a driving under the influence violation. The drunk teenager's blood alcohol content was so high that she could have died, but she was able to get help in time. "She was slumped over. I picked up her up. And I looked at her and I tried to get her to respond to me," awoman, who only wanted to be identified as Mary, told 7NEWS. Mary said shesaw the teen in the back of the limousine before she was rushedto the hospital. "She would not respond. Her eyes rolled back in her head," she said. Police said the limousine was rented by a parent for a 14-year-old girl's birthday party. The group of 13 girls and boys were all juvenile teens and there was no adult chaperone. Mary's home in Longmont was the last stop of the evening. "Pop was here for them.Cake was here," she said. The limo driver, Ron Allen, of The Longest Limos , told 7NEWS if he would have seen booze, the ride would have ended immediately, adding that the teens often closed the partition separating the driver from the passengers. "And after a while, you just leave it [the partition] up,"said Allen. Police commend the limo driver for immediately calling for help, saying the girl could have died. "I didn't know they were drinking back there. When the mom dropped them off at our yard in Loveland, they had Coke and Sprite in the back of the limo," said Allen. Officers said the person who furnished the alcohol could potentially face charges.

image Madison (Photo: Cook County Sheriff's Office) CHICAGO, Ill. (FoxNews.com) Parents say they are shaken and outraged after a Chicago limo driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol while taking 23 teenagers to their high school prom. FoxNews.com reports the teens noticed red flags while they were being driven to the dance at Oswego East High School by 54-year-old Richard Madison Saturday night. Student Kelly Dano tells the station the driver seemed sketchy from the beginning, but got worse as the ride went on. He hopped over a median and cut off 3 cars and thenhe took us to the wrong hotel, he took us to the Hyatt hotel instead of Abbington Place so we had 5 more miles to go, she said. Authorities say some of the students called their parents over the erratic driving, and two off-duty police officers controlled the situation once the limo arrived at the prom venue. DuPage County Sheriffs deputies then arrived and arrested Madisonfor driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless conduct. Kelly Danos mother Lori says the situation left her shaken. Thats why us parents provide limos so that theyre safe and dont have to worry about them driving an hour away by themselves and then this happens, she told MyFoxChicago.com. Madison claims he is innocent of the charges, claiming the limo had mechanical issues that caused him to drive erratically. You know, if I was guilty, I would still be in jail, Madison told MyFoxChicago.com after posting bail. Thats my thought. I would not be at home right now. The limo company which employs Madison did not return MyFoxChicago.coms requests for comment.

Chicago limo driver arrested for DUI after taking 23 teens to prom | KDVR.com

image In April, the San Francisco startup expanded its service in Chicago from black cars to include taxis as well. (Ubers recent attempt to expand from black cars to yellow taxis in New York City were swatted down last month by the Taxi and Limousine Commission.) Although Ubers brash tactics and outspoken CEO, Travis Kalanick, have rankled city governments and competitorsthe complaint even features a screengrab of a contentious tweet from Mr. Kalanick and references his open criticism of of any regulation in generalthis marks the first time a taxi or limousine company has filed a suit against Uber. The complaint was filed in theNorthern District of Illinois, on behalf ofthe following companies: Yellow Group, Yellow Cab Affiliation, Taxi Affiliation Services, YC1, 5 Star Flash, Chicago Medallion One and Your Private Limousine. Itaccuses Uber ofviolating numerous local and state laws regarding public safety, consumer protection, and fair practices. Twitter really has made it! Mr. Kalanick had not yet seen the lawsuit when Betabeat reached him this afternoon, and said he would respond with a full statement once his attorneys had looked over the document, although he did offer clarification on a couple matters below. The most noteworthy claim in the suit, at least where consumers are concerned, is related to pricing. In Chicago, Uber charges consumers a20 percent gratuity as the only charge associated with its e-hail and payment service. When Betabeat spoke to Uber last month, they hoped to be able to use the same 20 percent payment structure in New Yorks yellow cabs . The lawsuit, however, alleges that only half of that gratuity goes to the driver, with the other half going to Uber. It also saysthe practice violates Chicago ordinances by charging more that the meters set rate and that its illegal to pass on the credit card processing fees to passengers. Mr. Kalanick responded that the 20 percent tip passes through the driver and that Drivers pay a service fee to Uber for bringing them the additionalbusiness, similar to many radio dispatches in the Chicago area. The unlawful practice allegations seem to rests on the argument that Uber does not have the knowledge or consent of cab and limo companies, but rather contracts directly with drivers driving the taxi and livery cars. Its worth noting that while Uber develops relationships with black car companies (only one is named in the suit), itreaches out to taxi drivers directly. Thats partially a function of the fact that it has a dispatch license in Chicago for taxis. We connect riders with taxi drivers directly, weve never claimed otherwise Mr. Kalanick told Betabeat in regards to the lawsuit. In fact,Uberis currently trying to recruit taxi drivers in both Chicago and New York. However, the suit also calls that dispatch license into question, stating that mischaracterized its true methods of operation in order to fraudulently acquire a dispatch license and failed to disclose that it had no taxi affiliations. According to the complaint, thisfalse impression of association with transportation companies gives Uber the aura of legitimacy, with the public, while avoiding the costs and time necessitated by compliance with the laws and regulations. The suit then goes on toaccuse Uber of outright violations of the laws and regulations governing legally operating transportation companies, for example, the liability for checking whether vehicles are inspected and licensed. Chicago taxi drivers, the suit also notes, are prohibited from using cellphones whether or not hands-free, while operating a cab. Todays lawsuit is hardly the only legal morass Uber will have to climb out of in Chicago. Earlier this week, a Chicago attorney filed a class action lawsuit in theCircuit Court of Cook County on behalf of local passengers for false price advertising and deceptive use of wording in communicating how Uber makes a profit from each booking. Looks like the New York City Councils objections to e-hailing might be the least of their concerns. This is a breaking story and we will update the post as we learn more.
